Featuring Denuvo the DRM
If youāve been holding off on buying Sonic Colors: Ultimate because you want to play it on PC and you canāt stand the Epic Games Store, your day has come. Sort of. Sonic Colors: Ultimate has launched on Steam.
Initially released for the Wii in 2010, Sonic Colors is one of the seriesā games held in higher regard. The 2021 āUltimateā version refurbishes it for newer consoles, remastering the graphics and soundtrack while also adding some additional features. Destructoidās own Chris Carter described it as āone of the better ones to trot out.ā Yeah! Like a pony!
But letās tug the reins here because reception to the PC port hasnāt been exactly glowing. Steam users are reporting that itās a pretty rough version filled with āglitches and bugs.ā Iāve skimmed through the list of reported issues to see if I could summarize better, but Iāve only succeeded in finding that āeverythingā is broken. Audio, graphics, UI, and controls. Of course, being on the PC platform means that most people will get a different experience based on minute differences in both the hardware and software environment theyāre running.
However, you should also note that Sonic Colors: Ultimate also comes saddled with Denuvo DRM.
Itās unlikely a patch is coming to fix things anytime soon, as this is the same version as what was released on the Epic Games Store over a year ago, and itās still in the same rough shape. Iām not suggesting you avoid this release entirelyāIām not your game-momājust know what youāre potentially getting into.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and on PC through the Epic Games Store and Steam.
