Sonapan Shrine is one of the cool puzzle shrines in Tears of the Kingdom that is designed around one of the game’s new abilities. In this case, it’s the Ascend ability. Not sure how to use the Ascend ability? Well, this shrine will prove particularly difficult. But fear not, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know to complete Sonapan Shrine using Ascend below. Before we do that, let’s take a look at how to find it.

How to find Sonapan Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom

Sonapan Shrine is located in the Hyrule Ridge area of Hyrule, just to the west of Hyrule Field at the base of Satori Mountain. The closest fast travel point for most players is Hyrule Field Skyview Tower which is southeast of the shrine. To get to the shrine from Hyrule Field Tower, use it and glide northwest across Regencia River. It’s possible to get pretty much the whole way in a single glide with the maximum three stamina wheels. Otherwise, you’ll be on foot for a portion of the journey.

Alternatively, those who have unlocked Tsutsu-um Shrine have access to a much closer fast travel point. The route from Tsutsu-um Shrine is a short walk mostly north, which will have you there in no time. Check the screenshot above for the exact location of Sonapan Shrine on the map.

How to complete Sonapan Shrine

The first obstacle in Sonapan Shrine is simple to overcome, so long as you’re familiar with using Ascend. During the first few hours of the game, it’s easy to forget that you can traverse upwards through any object at any time. Luckily, Sonapan Shrine will help you to think vertically. To get past the first section, walk towards the overhanging ledge pictured above and use Ascend to jump up and through it.

Once you’re on the next level, head to the alcove on the right to find a large metal cube. Pick it up using Ultrahand, like in the picture above, and take it around to a similar alcove on the opposite side.

In the other alcove is a chest that requires the metal cube to access. You need to position the metal cube with one that’s already there, just like in the picture above, with the metal one on the top left and the other on the bottom right. You can use Ultrahand to connect them together. Once they’re in place, use Ascend to go up through the top cube and then hop down to the lower one to open the chest and receive a bundle of arrows.

After getting the chest, detach your metal box and carry it around to the platform between the two alcoves. Place the box on top of the ledge and then Ascend through both the ledge and the box at the same time to reach the top. See the picture above to get an idea of the placement.

The next room is similar to the previous two puzzles, except it’s much more convoluted. You need to Ascend through the column high up on the wall opposite the entrance, but it’s above deep water. Link can’t use Ascend while swimming, so you’ll need another option. To start, take the metal cube sitting on the left side of the room and place it in the water directly under the column that’s on the wall above the pool.

Unfortunately, that’s still not quite everything, as Link can’t climb onto the box from the water either. You’ll have to go the long way around. Before leaving, just make sure the cube is placed precisely in line with the column above it, similar to the pictures above and below.

Once the cube is in position, Ascend up to the top of the large platform on the left of the room from the spot where the cube was originally. From the higher platform, you can glide down to land on top of the cube. After getting on top of it, you’ll be able to Ascend to travel up through the column to the highest level of the shrine.

Then you’re there! The top level is where the exit is located. Collect your Light of Blessing and be on your way!
