Unfortunately, if you’ve read the headline of this story then you’ve already got through most of the information we have on this one at the moment. Today, Kotaku got confirmation through from Activision that a third Soldier Of Fortune game, subtitled Pay Back, is in development. Activision’s statement didn’t give much away, stating only that:
Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back is being published by Activision’s Minneapolis office. We have no further information to share at this point, but hope to very soon.
Not massively informative, but given that the story was broken as a rumor by WorthPlaying this morning, it could be that Activision wasn’t planning on making a statement at all today and has had its hand forced.
WorthPlaying is also currently reporting rumors that the new game isn’t being developed by original creator Raven, but is instead coming from Cauldron, developer of last year’s multiformat Civil War. There’s also a story that the enemy character models are going to have 36 points of separation to allow for some very creative dismantling, but it’s important to remember at this stage that everything apart from Activision’s statement is coming from one of those oh-so-prolific, shady unnamed sources that the internet holds so dear.
As with a lot of stories at the moment, more information will probably come to light at E3, so hang fire and hopefully we’ll come up with something for you soon. And preferably without having to deal with a gravelly-voiced man in a shadowy car park at midnight.
