Now your Skyrim character can flex for the lens
Photo mode has pretty much become a standard feature in modern gaming. Everything from Disco Elysium to God of War: Ragnarok to Final Fantasy XVI have it available. In an era in which games are looking more and more beautiful, developers seem keen to give fans the option to drink in all those delicious surroundings that take a lifetime to render and design.
Now it’s Skyrim‘s turn, thanks to modder powerofthree over on Nexus Mods (via PCGamesN). As the name suggests, this custom modification allows you to take snapshots of this icy slice of Tamriel. It also comes with a host of settings for the in-game camera, such as the ability to slow down time, adjust the FOV, and add a few filters.
Given how Bethesda loves to keep re-releasing Skyrim, it’s quite surprising that the studio hasn’t opted to include a photo mode at some point. You’d think that spanning three console generations and having multiple editions, Todd Howard and his team would think to add it in. However, as usual, the modding community has taken it upon itself to implement such a feature.
A game that knows no end
Over the years (well, more than a decade now), there have been a ton of mods released for Skyrim. Some of them just want to tweak the vanilla game for a better experience. Some fix bugs that Bethesda doesn’t seem to have gotten around to. While there are some which turn TES5 into a different beast entirely. It honestly begs the question of whether Skyrim could boast such longevity if it weren’t for modders.
But many feel it’s time to move on, even if mods are great for expanding the epic RPG’s shelf life. Given that The Elder Scrolls 6 could still be years away, though we still can’t be certain about that, TES5 is still going to get a look in for some time. At least now you can download Skyrim‘s unofficial photo mode and – combined with some graphics mods – get a newfound respect for the game’s visuals.
