Silent Hill 2 sucks on the PS5 Pro, Konami is silent about it

If you pick up the Silent Hill 2 remaster for your PS5 today, chances are you’ll be having a blast with the experience. If you’re to get the “improved” version for the recently-released PS5 Pro, however, you will likely see your enjoyment marred by various unexpected performance issues.

As spotted by Eurogamer, fans have been pointing out various visual problems brought about by the PS5 Pro version of the game, and both the developers at Bloober team and Konami, the IP owner, have remained silent on the issue for the time being.

The issues in the complaints range from poor performance, to graphical artifacts not present in the original version of the game, to a flickering effect players claim render the game impossible to play.

This issue sucks especially if you’re a die hard fan because it sounds like an evil re-imagining of one of the series’ darkest moments. I’m talking about the infamous Silent Hill HD Collection, which released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 over a decade ago. The release promised an improved way to play the classics Silent Hill 2 and 3, but it actually ended up looking much worse. Turns out it wasn’t a remaster of the final versions of the two classics, but one of unfinished builds. The PS3 version ended up patched and isn’t terrible anymore, but the Xbox 360 version never got that attention, and remains as broken now as it was upon release. I doubt Konami wants a similar scenario on their hands, especially now that Silent Hill 2 is proving a smash hit.

It’s important to note how the release version of the Silent Hill 2 Remake had performance dips in many of the game’s areas — it even featured a bizarre game-breaking bug — but Bloober Team ended up fixing that. I believe it’s very unlikely that this will go the HD Collection route, and It’s probably just a matter of time until the studio fixes these issues as well. We just don’t know when. The PS5 Pro did wonders to games like Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, so here’s hoping the PS5 Pro will find a way to take Silent Hill 2 to a good place.

You can now enjoy Silent Hill 2 on PC, PlayStation 5, and play it but probably not enjoy it as much on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
