Should you side with NetWatch or Voodoo Boys in Cyberpunk 2077?

Battle for the future of the Net.

During Act 2 in Cyberpunk 2077, V will be sent down to Pacifica as part of the I Walk the Line mission. V is contacted by Placide of the Voodoo Boys who hired V to infiltrate the Grand Imperial Mall. The ultimate objective is to track down a NetWatch agent who has locked two of the Voodoo Boys’ netrunners in stasis. Upon reaching the NetWatch agent, V is met with a counteroffer. Whose side should V take?

Should you believe the Voodoo Boys or NetWatch in Cyberpunk 2077?

Placide is playing V from the start and isn’t entirely honest about what the merc will find in there. Additionally, Placide uploaded a virus to V that will act as a literal kill switch as soon as they reach the NetWatch agent. The idea is to use V as a disposable resource and wipe out every NetWatch agent connected to his target.

NetWatch is there and attempting to infiltrate the Voodoo Boys’ local network. The agent in charge, Mosley, promised the local Animals gang control over the Grand Imperial Mall in exchange for their aid.

For further context, NetWatch is tasked with maintaining the integrity of the Blackwall, a firewall that protects the whole of the fragmented Net from the rogue AIs that were unleashed during the DataKrash. The Voodoo Boys want to bring down said firewall and win favor with the AIs in addition to recovering more data from the Old Net.

Side with NetWatch

If V takes Mosley up on his deal, the agent will remove the virus from V while also secretly installing a tracker. Upon leaving the theater, Placide calls V and arranges to meet in front of the mall where the Animals are no longer hostile towards V. Despite Placide’s anger, Brigitte cools everyone down.

In the next mission, Transmission, V comes “face to face” with the AI, Alt Cunningham. During this conversation, NetWatch launches its attack. Alt manages to save V, but all of the connected Voodoo Boys are toast. Upon coming back to the real world, V will have to contend with the remaining Voodoo Boys and Placide.

Side with the Voodoo Boys

Should V decide to stick with Placide’s plan, the merc will take down Mosley, jack into him, and watch as Placide activates the virus. Mosley and every NetWatch agent on his local net are killed while V only survives thanks to the Relic. V will then head back, understandably upset.

The now-free Brigette calms down tensions and gives V some vital data to contact Alt Cunningham. Continuing in Transmission, V gets to talk with Alt much the same way had they sided with NetWatch. The difference is that when V comes to, Brigitte reveals the Voodoo Boys have been playing them all along. V can play nice and walk away or get their murder on.

No matter what you choose, this mission only reinforces that there are no happy endings in Cyberpunk 2077. Night City is simply full of people trying to use one another for their own agendas. NetWatch? Voodoo Boys? We’re all bad guys in Pacifica.
