The Dawntreader side quest in Avowed takes a bit of a turn as you begin looking for the missing expedition scouts. Long story short, an Oracle tasks you with finding and putting a relic in a statue he’s built, but should you? In this guide, I’ve broken down how every choice you can make plays out below.
Where to get the Dawntreader quest in Avowed?
The side quest can be started by speaking to Ofryc in Paradis. He’s just outside the Aedyran Embassy and there will be a pale blue exclamation mark over him (and on your map), so he’s pretty hard to miss.
He’ll let you know that he’s worried about his brother Caedmon who is with the Aedyran Free Expedition Corps exploring an Eothasian temple in the very north of Dawnshore. Long story short, they went in search of someone called The Oracle and they’ve all gone missing, so it’s down to you to track them down.
Finding Caedmon is pretty straightforward, so we’re going to save you some reading and skip to the main part of Avowed’s Dawntreader side quest that you’re likely stuck with, which is deciding what to do with the Splinter of Eothas and the statue.
What happens if you put the relic in the statue for the Oracle?
If you’re down with the Oracle’s (Sargamis) plan to bring back the God, go ahead and put the Splinter of Eothas in the statue. Flip the switch that’s marked as a quest objective and the statue will begin coming to life… until it doesn’t.
The Oracle explains it essentially needs a ‘chime’ (read: your life) to power it. Agree to this, and you’ll need to stand under an Animancy device which promptly kills you.

You’ll respawn and now have the optional quest objective to defeat the Oracle. As far as I can tell, it’s not possible to get out of here alive at this point, as Sargamis will immediately try and fight you.
Ultimately, trying to help the Oracle with his quest to bring back Eothas is impossible. Instead, you’ll be forced into another decision, the first of which we’ll explain below.
What happens if you put the Splinter in the statue, but convince the Oracle to give up his plan?
You can choose to put the Splinter in the statue, but then convince Sargamis to give up his mad plan as it’s just not working. He’ll eventually come around to the idea that you’re right. He won’t fight you, and if you visit his study after leaving the ruin (it’s just on the way out of this area), he’ll give you the Last Light of Day unique sword.
It’s worth noting that this option is only available if you’ve got the Court Augur background option to initially tell him to give up his plan because it’s not working, and then pass an Intellect skill check of four to convince him that his animancy practice isn’t going to work with the statue.
What happens if you kill the Oracle and put the relic in the statue in Avowed?
If you say no to the Oracle, you’ll have to kill him. Be sure to loot his corpse when you’ve defeated him to get his sword, ‘Last Light of Day.’ This has two enchants: Golden Sun’s Ascent which restores 3% of your maximum health every time you defeat an enemy, and Dawn’s Remembrance which makes each of your hits deal +10% bonus fire damage.

The Voice will now make contact with you and request you communicate with it through the nearby Adra. Do so, and it’ll ask you to put the Splinter of Eothas in the statue so that you can ‘join soul into body.’ Put the relic in the statue and flip the switch as you did before for the Oracle. This time, the statue properly comes to life.
The Voice will ask you to speak again. It’ll thank you and say something along the lines of ‘One day, when we are free, we could return here. Dwell in this body. Feel the earth again. But it is a sprout. Fragile. It must sleep here undisturbed. A secret you could keep.’

It then essentially asks if it can inhabit the statue. You have two choices you can make here, and some questions you can ask to help inform your decision. Ultimately, you’re choosing yes or no:
- The statue is yours.
- Everything about this statue is wrong. I have to destroy it.
If you agree to give the statue to The Voice, it’ll thank you and say it needs time to ponder it. The consequences of this decision aren’t immediate. If anything does change further into Avowed, I’ll update this post and let you know.
What happens if you destroy the statue?
There is a third option here. You kill the Oracle because he’s a horrible guy who just killed a bunch of people, and you tell The Voice you have to destroy it. You’ll then be given an optional objective to ‘Overload three Essence Generators.’
These have all been boarded up, but the first can be found to the right of the statue behind some wooden boarding.

For the second, go around to the left-hand side of the statue and head across a wooden plan. You’ll find some more wooden boarding on a wall on the other side of a gap. Use a ranged weapon to destroy the boarding and then zap the generator.

For the final essence generator, climb up the ladder you used to put the relic in the statue and follow the wooden boarding to its right-hand side, jump over the gap and then do a 180 turn. Jump to the ledge to your right that will take you behind the statue’s head.

Follow this around to the other side of the statue. Jump across the gap to find more wooden boarding and the generator waiting to be zapped behind it.
If you choose to do this, as far as I can tell, nothing immediately happens. The Voice will be very sad with you, but there are no significant, gameplay-effecting consequences from destroying the statue.
There is a chance this impacts your relationship with The Voice further into Avowed, though. As soon as we know for sure if there are any long-term consequences from making this decision, we’ll let you know.
What should you do with the relic and the statue in Avowed’s Dawntreader side quest?
The ‘best’ outcome is ultimately a toss-up between destroying the statue, and giving it to The Voice. You obviously can’t help the Oracle with his plans, and walking out of the place with the Splinter of Eothas seems a bit pointless.
I decided to give the statue to The Voice. Everything it has done so far has been seem well intended. We received our first Godlike ability not long after talking to it for the first time, and it’s warned us of other potential dangers in the world. That being said, it could be using you as a puppet, so maybe destroying the statue is the better choice.
As soon as I have a clearer idea of how this all plays out, I’ll be updating this post with more information. In the meantime, I’ve got other quest guides to help you out, such as where to find the Dawnshore cartographer, where The Voice’s memory is in Dawnshore, and whether you should confront the smugglers or report the refugees.
