Go back to go forward
Sepapa Shrine is a cool puzzle shrine that challenges you to make the most of the Recall ability that is new in Tears of the Kingdom. By the end of Sepapa, you’ll be practically seeing in reverse. However, to get there the shrine is challenging. We’ve covered everything you need to know to complete Sepapra Shrine below. But first, let’s take a look at how to find it.
How to find Sepapa Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom
Sepapa Shrine resides in the Hyrule Field area of Hyrule. The shrine is to the northeast of Lookout Landing, the first village you discover in the game. That means that Lookout Landing Skyview Tower is the closest fast travel point for most players.
However, if you’ve unlocked other shrines in the area, such as Yamiyo Shrine, you may be able to get a little closer. Whichever fast travel point you go to, head to the small island east of Hyrule Castle, and the shrine should be easy to spot. Check the screenshot above for the precise location of the shrine on the map.
How to complete Sepapa Shrine
As mentioned above, Sepapa Shrine is all about making use of the Recall ability. The only way to pass each section is to think in reverse. The first puzzle is a relatively simple example of this. The platform is moving up and down in a circular motion. To get to the top, you need to use Recall on it when it’s on the righthand side of the pillar. Stand at the top of the steps and wait for it to come around to you, then hop on and ride it to the top.
The next section is a tad more difficult, and there’s also a chest to be had. First, pick up the torch from the floor and equip it as your weapon. Then, hop onto the wooden platform that’s floating to the other side of the room. The platform, pictured above, may need to be reversed to get it back to you.
Ride it downstream and strike the flames with your torch to light it. At the end, jump off the platform and set the wall ivy on fire to make the chest drop down to Link’s level. The chest contains a Strong Construct Bow, which is handy against mid-level enemies.
Now, jump back on the platform and use Recall on it to head back to the other end of the shrine. You have to use Recall on it for two reasons: the current is too strong to swim, meaning Link will run out of stamina before the end, and you need to take the lit torch with you. Make sure to relight it on the way back to the beginning, as it should have gone out when you opened the chest.
When you’re back at the beginning, use the torch to light the two plinths on either side of the locked door. When they’re both alight, the door will open.
The final puzzle is by far the most difficult. You have two holes that can be activated by a ball, just like you’ve probably seen a hundred times in Tears of the Kingdom. However, the twist here is that there’s only one ball for the two holes. That makes things much trickier.
The top hole, closest to where the ball spawns, opens the door to the shrine exit. But there’s another door blocking the way to that one. The second lower hole opens that first door. You also can’t use Ultrahand to simply move the ball around, as the distance is too great.
You need to place the ball in the top hole that opens the exit door. Leave it in the hole for a good 10 seconds or so. Then, pick up the ball and put it in the lower hole. Leave it there and run through the open door. Now you need to use Recall to reverse the ball. Unlike Ultrahand, Recall will reach the ball. When you use Recall, it should look something like the picture above as the ball reverses back into the top hole.
Once it is there, the second door will open, and you can head through to the exit. If, for any reason, you miss getting through the second door, use Recall on the ball again to open the first door and then start over.
That’s it! Sepapa Shrine is complete!
