Now, I actually happened to enjoy the game version of Scarface, but licensed games that turn out to be good are about as rare as it gets. What’s even worse is that after seeing the success Scarface has now had, game publishers will continue to go after the quick buck and push out the usual movie tie-in crap we’re used to. I’d put a ton of hope into the fact that this won’t happen, but I’m a realist and fully expect unsuspecting gamers to be taken advantage of. Here’s the lowdown:
Vivendi Games is touting Scarface: The World is Yours, as the game tops 1 million copies sold worldwide. Vivendi said that research firm NPD Group listed the game as the top-selling title of October in North America. The PSP spin-off, Scarface: Money. Power. Respect. saw big October sales as well, topping the North American PSP charts for the month, according to NPD.
“We are very appreciative of the outstanding retail and gaming community support in North America, Europe and Australia,” said Pascal Brochier, president of global retail at Vivendi Games. “This support pushed the game to #1 in North America while exceeding our expectations in Europe and beyond.”
