Risk of Rain 2: How to unlock Chef

Hello, children.

The Seekers of the Storm DLC for Risk of Rain 2 has finally dropped, and with it, there’s a tonne of new stuff. New characters, for example, and, hey, look: one of my favorites has returned from the first game. It’s Chef! Here’s how to get the cuisinart android.

First of all ā€“ and this is the really obvious part ā€“ you need to actually own Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm. It also has to be activated. Not surprising at all, I know. With that out of the way, here’s what you need.

You’ll first need to grab the following items. You don’t necessarily need them all in one run. Once you put an item where it needs to be, it will remain there, even on new runs:

  • Bison Steak
  • Cautious Slug
  • Infusion

Next, you’re going to need to find a big green crystal called a Halcyon Shrine. When you pray at one of these, it will start draining your gold. As you do this, it will start turning gold, and after you’ve given up enough money, it will spawn a boss. You’ll need to defeat it. Once you do, a green portal will open that takes you to one of the DLC’s levels: The Reformed Altar.

Now, you need to find Chef. First, get to the Throne Room, which is a big, important-looking chamber with, appropriately, a throne. To the left, on the ground floor, there’s a cave/corridor. Go through there and you’ll find the waiting Chef. Put the ingredients in the panel in front of you, and Chef will wake up, confirming that he’s now been added to your cast.

If you’re having trouble with any of this, remember that you can set the game to the easiest difficulty to unlock characters.
