Last week saw the debut ofĀ Arcane: Riot’s take on a League of Legends TV universe. And not only is it a hit critically, it seems to have done well for Riot in terms of reach. Naturally, there’s going to be more League of Legends media on the way.

Riot no doubt was already planning on this given how long it took to actually produce and releaseĀ Arcane, but in a recent interview with the LA Times, they’re getting a little more open about what that might entail. Riot entertainment president Shauna Spenley had this to say:

“I donā€™t think most of Hollywood realizes how massive this is. I think that we have a huge opportunity to build amazing organic stories inside of this world, and for it to quietly build and become the IP that defines a generation. Itā€™s going to take a little time.”

So, obviously there’s some posturing here, and Spenley is just doing their job. While “IP that defines a generation” is a tall order, even in just the MOBA sphere whenĀ DOTA 2 is also massively successful, there is potential.Ā Arcane obviously struck a chord with people who don’t playĀ League, as well as lapsed players. So there’s room to keep slowly building up qualityĀ League of Legends media projects to the point where all of a sudden, there’s a new “universe” people actually care about.

I mean, the sky is the limit here. Riot has so many feelers, and so many accounts, and so much data, they could pull information from all over the world and focus test their best ideas for free. Whoever the most popular Champions are; they can get at least a role in a new project. Or perhaps promote their newĀ League of Legends rework and premiere skin, or even a new spinoff game.
