I have never seen a copy of the original Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure in my life, and I probably never will. Believe it or not, I have a thing for musicals. Not so much the Fiddler on the Roof style fluff, but the good stuff like Little Shop of Horrors, The Rocky Horror Show and Return to the Forbidden Planet. Naturally, I find the concept of the musical videogame fascinating, and this is why the news of Rhapsody hitting the DS was so pleasing for me.
The only other musical videogame I can recall (discounting rhythm action games, of course) is The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge, which had terrible gameplay, but fantastic musical boss battles, including some amazing reworkings of classic Nightmare songs.
Rhapsody looks utterly silly, but I am looking forward to it nonetheless. Hopefully this old RPG stands the test of time when it reemerges on Nintendo’s handheld.
