Placing all bets on the Crystal release date!

I’m gonna bet Crystal will arrive sometime in December but, with that said, here’s my video review for Pokémon Gold! A game that brings up so many memories for me. A little fun fact about myself: I went to Japan… when I was like eight or nine. But, whenever I play this game, those memories immediately come to my mind. My family went there in 2000 to visit a relative, who was dating a Japanese man and living with his family, which included his sister, her husband, and three kids.

One of those kids was only about a year or two older than me and despite the fact we couldn’t understand one another, we did understand one thing — and that was Pokémon. He had a copy of Gold and I had a copy of Silver. We compared teams, showed off Pokédex to one another, and we even tried trading via the link cable. Sadly, for whatever reason, it didn’t work. (I think it was region locked, I’m not sure though).

But I still remember him begging his mom for help to try and figure out what the problem was, and she wasn’t having none of it. Let’s just say you don’t need to speak Japanese to know when a mom is scolding her kid, that’s for sure.

As for some behind the scenes stuff, I originally planned on beating all 16 gyms across both regions and defeating Red, prior to reviewing the game. But, by the time I was nearing my deadline, I had only just got to Kanto. So, I had to settle with only having 12 badges. Usually my writing process (for a review anyways), takes about a day — dependent on my procrastination of course. But, by the time the video was done, my team was the following:

  • Lv. 55 Typhlosion
  • Lv. 53 Scizor – There is no better feeling in this game than sweeping the Elite 4 with Swords Dance.
  • Lv. 55 Ampharos
  • Lv. 53 Pidgeot
  • Lv. 53 Golem – Fun fact: the battle sprite for Golem in the second generation was hilariously bad.
  • Lv. 71 Suicune – A friend of mine cloned and traded his over.

Chances are, this will be the only Pokémon game I’ll be tackling. Our new show Nintendo Pro will be covering most things Nintendo going forward. So with any luck, we’ll see a Pokemon Crystal video from them once that releases!

As for regular video reviews, next up will most likely be Forza 7 from our own Peter Glagowski! As for upcoming releases in November and the holiday season in general, what potential games would you want video reviews for? Let us know in the comments, and as always, I hope you guys enjoyed the latest video!
