We touched on it briefly during the course of our Neo Geo episode, but come on. It’s Metal Slug. You can’t touch on it briefly. So we’re doing a whole episode about it. Partly because it’s one of my favorite games ever, but mostly because it deserves it. While it isn’t exactly “old” per se, the series represents one of the greatest eras in videogame history; when you might say sprite-based artwork had matured into the best it was ever going to be.
Polygons marched on the horizon, ready to change the face of videogames forever, and there was no better way to draw the sprite ages to a close than with a series that combined outrageous humor and charm with addictive and action-heavy gameplay. Sit back in your rocket lounger, leave us a few questions in the comments, and get ready to join us tomorrow for our Metal Slug episode.
