Fantastic weekend for Pearl fans

It was a big weekend for Nintendo’s popular arena-shooter Splatoon 2. Both the U.S. of A and Europe battled it out in their own splatfests. America went all sporty as Baseball took on Soccer, while Europeans scrapped over whether popcorn should be served Salty or Sweet.

The question of sport was first to cross the finish line, with Pearl’s Team Baseball took the 2 – 1 victory. I was expecting Baseball to beat out Soccer but, interestingly enough, Pearl gained her winning points from Team and Solo play. The public vote actually went a whopping 60% in Soccer’s favour.  I have been grossly mislead about America’s view of their supposed “national pastime”.

Because the world is not enough, Pearl also took a second victory across the Atlantic Ocean, as Team Salty beat out Team Sweet 2 – 1 in the territory’s Popcorn war. This time the points were reversed, with Marina’s Team Sweet winning the public vote, while Salty took both Solo and Team Play. What a week to be a follower of the punk princess.

The next splatfest will take place in Japan on April 21. Sponsored by JAMSTECH: The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, it will see Pearl’s Unknown Creatures do battle with Marina’s Advanced Technology, which doesn’t sound nearly as important as how you like your cinema food.

Splatoon 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch.
