Renegade Kid (the developer behind the technically impressive Dementium and Moon for Nintendo DS) has revealed its new project, a third-person platformer, to IGN.

Called Maximillian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds, the title has a young Maximillion cleaning up his neighborhood of mud creatures, spawned as a result of a fallen meteor. Max has a watergun/backpack combination to take out the Mutant Mudds, which of course immediately brings to mind Super Mario Sunshine. But hey, there could be worse comparisons, right?

The title is early on in development, with no publisher and no firm details on how the game will be delivered to the DS. It could be a DSiWare game, it could be a retail game… it could be both? Most interesting is Renegade Kid’s suggestion that it could deliver the game to retail, and then supplement the title with DSiWare downloads in the future, a possible first for the platform.

IGN has trailer of the game in action, which looks fluid (no pun intended) running at 60 frame per second. What do you think?
