I have no idea if Harold Ramis would have approved of this, but this is a thing now. Remember the 1993 classic film Groundhog Day? Most of you do: it had a killer premise and a perfect lead in Bill Murray. Well it’s back, in VR form.

Like most sequels to ’80s and ’90s comedies, this one deals with the son of the original character Phil Connors (Phil Connors Jr.), as he’s caught in the same time loop as his father in the same town (Punxsutawney). In short, it’s basically a comedic-tinted narrative choice game…in VR. It’s being handled by Tequila Works, whose track record includes the not-so-great Deadlight, the incredible Sexy Brutale and the interesting Rime. It’s being co-produced by MWM Immersive and Sony.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son will drop in 2019 on the Vive, Rift and PSVR. I’m willing to give it a shot even if Stephen Tobolowsky (who is currently doing some great TV work) seems conspicuously absent based on the trailer.
