Red Steel 3 needs to ‘know’ it has an audience

Red Steel was garbage. Red Steel 2 was great. Red Steel 3? Who knows if that will ever happen? Red Steel 2 director Jason Vandenberghe hopes we’ll see another entry in the series, but following the disappointing sales performance of the last game, he has to know if enough people want it.

“Hopefully we’ll roll into the next project and start building something even cooler than what we’ve accomplished with this game, but first we need to understand if we even have an audience,” the director tells ONM. “How many people want to play a game where you stand up and swing your arm vigourously? We think the answer is ‘a lot’, but some cold, hard facts never hurt the situation when pitching the next project.”

Hopefully some facts are produced, because Red Steel 2 really was one of the best turnabouts I’ve seen a franchise do. A little less elbow-killing thrust actions could have been nice, but otherwise Ubisoft really made first-person motion-controlled sword-slinging (FPMCSS) action work. It’d be a shame to see all that effort evaporate into nothing.
