Whether for bragging rights or just because they sound kinda neat — Final Fantasy XIV is full of players eager to collect and add rare titles to their character names. Of course, like all things in the MMO, some titles are far more rare than others.
What are titles in FFXIV?
A title is a text snippet you can display with your character name over your head while running around the world or in duties. Some titles are earned by performing a particular task in FFXIV, with many available from completing fairly simple quests, though some take a lot more effort and pain to gain.
Here, in no particular order, are some of the rarest, arguably hardest to gain, titles within FFXIV. Also, note an ellipsis (…) before the title means it sits underneath your character name, and an ellipsis after the title means it sits above.
1 “…The Accursed”
To obtain “…The Accursed” title, you need to find 20,000 pieces of the Accursed Hoard on your adventures through the various Deep Dungeons of Eorzea. It doesn’t matter if these pieces are found in Palace of the Dead, Heaven on High, or Eureka Orthos — they all count.
The problem comes when you consider just how difficult these pieces are to find, especially without Pomanders of Intuition to aid you. There are resources to help you find these pieces of coveted treasure though, such as Punished Pinapple’s maps over on GitHub.
2 “…Of The Endless Hunt”
To score the “…Of The Endless Hunt” title, you’ll need to slay 10,000 A-Rank Elite Marks. This, on the face of it, sounds pretty simple, but it’s actually anything but. These monsters spawn infrequently and each have multiple spawn points.
On the plus side, the community regularly organizes hunt trains and there are resources such as Faloop that help with tracking hunt mark spawns. Faloop also has a Discord server, where players call out hunts as they spawn. According to FFXIVCollect, only 0.4% of registered players have obtained this title since it was introduced in patch 4.0.
3 “…Jack Of All Cards”
Ah, Triple Triad… Such a simple and yet overwhelmingly infuriating game. Gathering up the first 312 cards of the deck seems like an easy task, but again, it’s not. Collecting these cards will see you undertaking a vast variety of duties, sometimes repeatedly, until cards drop. You also must defeat NPCs, finish Beast Tribe quests, and gather various forms of currency to exchange for cards. On the plus side, you also net the Magicked Card mount for achieving this feat.
If you choose to undertake this challenge, I suggest using Another Triple Triad Tracker. It’s another rare one; with FFXIVCollect reporting 9.6% of registered players sporting the title in their collection.
4 “High Roller…”
For the FFVII-inspired “High Roller…” title, players must earn seven other achievements from various activities within the Golden Saucer. The good news is that these seven achievements also reward their own titles. These achievements, how to get them, and their titles are:
Achievement | Associated title | How to get |
Winningest Jockey | “…The First Across” | Place first in 500 sanctioned Chocobo races |
Always Bet on Me | “…The Trinity” | Win 1,000 Triple Triad roulette matches |
Bracket Breaker | “Duelist…” | Win 100 Triple Triad tournament matches |
Enemy at the GATE III | “Keymaster…” for male characters “Gatemaster…” for female characters | Successfully complete 100 GATEs |
WTFungah III | “…The Fungah” | Successfully complete the GATE “Any Way the Wind Blows” 10 times |
Work Smarter, Not Harder | “Moneybags…” | Win a cumulative total of 1,000,000 MGP from the Jumbo Cactpot |
Mountains out of Gil-Hills | “…Raiser of Mountains” | Win a cumulative total of 1,000,000 MGP from the Mini Cactpot |
According to FFXIVCollect, this title is among the most rare, with only 0.5% of registered players being in possession of it. That’s more impressive since it was introduced all the way back in patch 2.51.
5 “The Hand of Creation…”
Within the Firmament, you can craft items to contribute towards the sector’s Restoration or enter The Diadem and gather items. This earns you points towards your “Skyward Score”. To gain this title, players must earn 500,000 points in every DoH/DoL class. Gaining 500,000 points in one class is a difficult enough challenge, though each class gets its own title as a reward for doing so.
To check your Skyward Score (and weep, if it’s as disappointing as mine is…) talk to Ludovraint in The Firmament (x:10.6 Y:14.6).
6 “Fortune’s Favored Kupo…”
Crafting within The Firmament also offers players chances to play “Kupo of Fortune”. Essentially, this is a scratch card game of luck that offers prizes. The challenge in getting this title is that the game relies on sheer luck and as most players will admit, we’re not that lucky. To get the “Fortune’s Favored Kupo…” title, a player must claim first prize in Kupo of Fortune 30 times.
To play Kupo of Fortune, deliver relevant crafted items to Potkin in the Firmament (X:12.2 Y:14.6). Five stamps gets you a voucher and a chance to play, by talking to Lizbeth, who stands beside him.
According to FFXIVCollect, 3.7% of registered players have managed to obtain this title since its introduction in patch 5.21.
7 “Mentor of Mentors…”
Becoming a Mentor is hard enough, considering the requirements, but gaining this title is a challenge like no other. To use the “Mentor of Mentors…” title, a Mentor must participate in and complete 500 duties using the Mentor Roulette. Duties range from basic dungeons to Extreme Trials of all levels, and the problem is that many mentors simply don’t want to use the function — a sore subject often arising on the official forums. That checks with the FFXIVCollect data; only 3.3% of players have this title.
Side note, the much coveted Astrope mount is obtained by completing 2000 duties through Mentor Roulette.
8 “…The Insatiable”
A lot of players who have completed even one of the Zodiac Relic Weapons will tell you that the process is grueling, seemingly never-ending and tiresome at best, as evidenced over on Reddit. However, “…The Insatiable” is a title for those who are brave enough to complete not only one Zodiac Weapons, but all of them.
According to FFXIVCollect, only 10% of players registered have obtained “The Insatiable,” but considering its addition was way back in A Realm Reborn‘s launch, that’s not many folks.
9 “Doom of the Deep…”
A high score on any of the Ocean Fishing routes is hard to come by, but to obtain the “Doom of the Deep…” title, players must get a score of 16,000 or more on a single voyage on the Ruby route. If you’re a fan of Ocean Fishing, or you just have more luck than most, this one should be fairly easy to obtain.
10 “Blueblazer…”
This title is obtained by completing 150 types of routine missions within the Blue Mage Log. The challenge when trying to get this title is finding others who are willing to play with you. Each mission requires a pre-requisite number of players who are playing as Blue Mage and getting that many players of this class in one place is no easy task… Unless it’s during an Irregular Tomestone event.
There’s a community-run Discord server, The Blue Academy, that you can join to find others trying to complete their log, too.
