Earlier this year, Mintrocket and Toho announced a free Godzilla DLC for one of 2023’s biggest surprise hits: Dave the Diver. Simply titled Godzilla Content Pack, this collaboration was completely out of left field, but both fans of the game and the Godzilla franchise reacted quite positively to it.
However, not everyone is aware that this DLC has always been time-limited. As disclosed in its original announcement trailer, Dave the Diver‘s Godzilla DLC is only going to be available until November 23, 2024. After that date, it’s seemingly going to disappear completely from online stores.
Both the base game and the DLC are currently available on PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, and both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. If you are a Godzilla fan and you only care about the DLC, the good news is that you can download it for free on the Nintendo Store or the PlayStation Store, keep it, and buy Dave the Diver later. This doesn’t apply to Steam, however, since you need to own the game before downloading its DLC.
Dave the Diver’s Godzilla DLC saw the comeback of a classic kaiju
In case you didn’t know, Dave the Diver is a 2D adventure game about the titular professional diver, Dave, who catches fish so he can later serve them in his sushi restaurant. The game has a big focus on oceanic exploration, so the appearance of Godzilla – a famous amphibian monster who resides in the ocean – is not that out of place. However, the King of the Monsters is not alone, as Mintrocket managed to get the license of another classic Godzilla monster.
Dave the Diver also features Ebirah, a crustacean kaiju, and the main antagonist of the 1966 film, Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. While it’s not as popular as other iconic monsters (Like King Ghidorah, Mothra, or Mechagodzilla), Ebirah’s aquatic nature makes it fit right in with the game’s atmosphere, themes, and overall vibe. On top of that, the Godzilla Content Pack also includes 20 collectible figurines of other classic kaiju for players to find. This DLC is a real treat for fans of the Godzilla franchise, so they should definitely try to grab it before Mintrocket and Toho delist it tomorrow.
