We’ve got some curious information on a PS3 system update that may or may not be available tomorrow. This morning, CVG reported that PlayStation.com had information on a new update, version 2.53 (the current version is 2.52). I checked out the system software update page on the official US PlayStation Web site at the time, and it indeed said that the v2.53 firmware would add the ability to maximize Flash videos: “New for 2.53: The Internet browser now supports full-screen mode for Adobe Flash Player content.”
Strangely, if you visit the page now, that bullet point is nowhere to be found. Maybe that’s because it will remain November 25th in the US for another nine hours — you see, the site still features this telling line:
An update to the PS3™ system software was released on November 26, 2008. You can use this update to upgrade your system software to version 2.53.
I guess we’ll find out what the deal is at midnight EST tonight. In the immortal words of Jebediah Springfield, “A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man,” and I’m hoping to be able to “embiggen” some Flash videos on my PS3 tomorrow.
