Go go franchise building
For those of you not up to speed with the latest Power Rangers news, toy and board gaming company Hasbro swooped up the franchise from Saban Brands earlier this year. Seeing how their eclectic catalog — items like Transformers, G.I. Joe, and My Little Pony — has made it as films, it is natural that Power Rangers will be up there—and it sounds like a sequel to the 2017 reboot will be part of those plans.
The movie didn’t set the world on fire critically or financially, but the performance must have been good enough to justify a follow-up rather than yet another goddamn reboot. Hasbro will begin to release new Power Rangers products by “mid-2019,” and “will work with a film studio to develop a new Power Rangers movie as a follow-up to the 2017 release,” according to news from Licensing.org.
The 2017 film set up some elements for potential sequels, including a hint at Green Ranger and guy-who-won’t-stop-showing-up-in-the-series Tommy Oliver. If you ask me, a lifelong Power Rangers fan, let’s drop this hokey Mighty Morphin’ bullshit and make a goddamn Time Force movie already. That would be fucking dope.
