Pokemon Go: Which path to choose for Galar Calling research — Grookey, Scorbunny or Sobble

Picking a starter Pokémon is never an easy choice.

Pokémon Go new season, dubbed Max Out, is now live. The Pokémon Go Max Out season brings with it a new Special Research for players to take part in, and players are required to choose a path in order to complete this research.

The Galar Calling Special Research story asks players to choose between three starter Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny or Sobble. While it is possible to catch all three of these Pokémon during this research, the choice will impact the rewards players earn during this research.

So, which path should you choose in Pokémon Go for the Galar Calling Special Research story? Here’s a breakdown for each of the choices.

Grookey

Grookey is your best choice between the lot, if you prioritize Pokémon Go Trainer Battles the most when you play Pokémon Go. Given that all three are starter Pokémon, it is only when you evolve these Pokémon do you get their strongest version.

Grookey evolves into Thwackey, and Thwackey is eventually evolved into Rillaboom. The grass-type Rillaboom is an excellent choice for Pokémon Go battles against other trainers. Rillaboom has been a strong choice for many VGC players lately, and is an easy pick in a competitive sense when compared to the evolved versions of Scorbunny and Sobble.

When you pick Grookey in the Galar Calling Special Research story, some of your tasks will focus on the starter Pokémon, requiring you to evolve it into Thwackey and then Rillaboom. There will also be tasks at hand that will give players a chance to earn more Grookey Candy.

Scorbunny

Scorbunny is a fire-type Pokémon, and choosing Scorbunny will give players more chances to catch Scorbunny during the Galar Calling Special Research story. Scorbunny, the fire bunny, evolves into Raboot, and Raboot evolves into Cinderace.

If you have never picked a fire-type starter Pokémon, go with Scorbunny. Picking Scorbunny over Grookey is based on what you would prefer, in terms of which Pokémon you like more. While thinking purely from a Pokémon Go battles perspective, picking Scorbunny over Grookey only makes sense if you already have a stronger grass-type Pokémon in your squad, or if you do not have a better fire-type Pokémon.

Sobble

Similarly, Sobble is only a good choice for battles if you don’t have a better water-type Pokémon in your arsenal. Sobble evolves into Drizzile, and then eventually evolves into Inteleon.
