They’re catchable in the wild, too

Niantic has added a few more legendary Pokémon to Pokémon Go, but they haven’t been relegated to raids or research events. For the first time in the history of the title, players will be able to spot Pokémon Diamond and Pearl‘s lake creatures in the wild. While you’ll only be able to find each Pokémon in a specific region, you won’t need to do anything special to have a chance at spotting them.

Azelf will be available in the Americas, Mesprit in Europe, and Uxie can be found in Asia. Each spirit has an incredibly rare spawn rate and will only spawn near a lake or a large body of water. Users over on Reddit have created a map tool to help you pinpoint possible locations in your area where these Pokémon may spawn, which should be mighty helpful if you happen to live inland.

While I appreciate the attention to detail Niantic took in recreating this trio’s in-game spawn location, I can’t help but wonder if going the route of special research would have been better. Many people aren’t going to be able to quickly find a lake and with the spawn rate being so low, they may never see these creatures. At the same time, it’s great that legendary Pokémon aren’t being held hostage behind raids, which are functionally worthless in smaller towns.

All complaints aside, hopefully some more legendary creatures will follow in the footsteps of these and walk around the wild a bit. I’d really like to have a chance of catching a Mewtwo.
