Pictures of what appear to be the developer kit for the next Microsoft console were posted on the AssemblerGames forums, though they have since been removed. Speaking to the poster responsible — who jokingly asked for $10,000 in exchange for the Durango dev kit and was then banned from AssemblerGames — Digital Foundry has come to the conclusion that these photos are legitimate.
The leaked images were “acknowledged as genuine by reliable sources we know to be working on AAA next-gen games,” stated the website. According to another source, the system itself is said to be 64-bit, and porting over existing DirectX 11 engines from PC to Durango would be doable.
The original poster, who goes by the name of DaE, also posted a screenshot of Microsoft Visual Studio for the new console; it too appears to be authentic. In case you hadn’t ever seen what dev kits look like before, yeah, they’re not exactly sexy.
