One of the breakout PC hits was Runic Games’ Torchlight. A modern take on the point and click action of previous loot-collecting RPGs like Diablo, Torchlight was only heavily criticized for it’s strictly single player orientation. However, long has there been talk of making Torchlight into an MMO, and PC Gamer UK has released some details on this strongly anticipated title.
Many details were confirmed about the title, such that Torchlight the MMO will be a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions. they have an odd mountain to climb, as President of Runic, Travis Baldree himself confirms that he himself is no fan of microtransactions, so they are aiming to make complete content for when the game launches, as well as offer purchasable options to people interested in that.
Even more interesting is the direction Runic hopes to take the game. As Baldree is quoted as saying, “our vision is to have an MMO that plays as close to single player as we can get it. It will have the same focus on relatively fast action: carving your way through hordes of monsters with a large number of hugely devastating skills. The game has to be solo-able, but players will have to have skills that make them useful in a party and make them work together”. Honestly, it almost sounds like the Torchlight MMO will just be replicating Torchlight for multiple players, and, truth be told, that doesn’t sound like a bad game at all.
