Palworld encumbrance explained – How to carry more in Palworld

You're gonna carry that weight.

Gathering resources and filling up your inventory is a major part of Palworld. But sometimes, the weight just gets too much to carry. Here’s how encumbrance works in Palworld and how you can carry more weight, for even more Stone, Wood, and various foodstuffs.

Early on, you may notice that it’s quite easy to load up on resources. Get lost in a podcast while slapping trees with an axe, and you might even find your character unable to move. That Palworld‘s encumbrance system at work, setting both soft and hard limits on what you can carry at any given time.

How much weight can you carry in Palworld?

The amount of stuff you can hold in your spacious pockets at any given time in Palworld is determined by your Weight stat. Unlike other games, that might ask you to expand inventory slots, Weight is an actual stat you can put points into after you level up, just like Health or Stamina.

For every point into Weight, you gain an additional 50 carrying capacity. What this means is, you can carry up to that number in weight before becoming encumbered; each item has its own weight in your inventory, and will tack onto the total.

So, if you’re having trouble carrying more stuff in Palworld, I recommend at least a few quality-of-life points into the Weight stat. It will certainly make your life easier. Passing the threshold, though, isn’t the end of the world.

Can I still move while over-encumbered in Palworld?

The answer to this is both yes and no. You can still move while over-encumbered in Palworld, but only up to a certain extent. Once you go over your Weight limit, you’ll move slower and won’t be able to do any athletics, like climbing, jumping, or swimming. And at an even higher amount over, you won’t be able to move at all.

Similar restrictions seem to apply with riding on Pals, too. While I could ride around on my Rushoar if I was lightly encumbered, I did not seem able to hop on if I was fully encumbered. My Rushoar also couldn’t sprint or jump while I was over my Weight limit, though it could still do its charge move.

To discover just how much, I performed a little science experiment: with my carrying capacity of 450 Weight, I filled my pockets with rocks and tried to calculate the exact moment I went from moving sluggishly to not moving at all.

Per my calculations, it was when I went 50 over. The moment I crossed over the 500 mark, I couldn’t move an inch. So the hard limit on weight looks to be 50 over; once you cross that, you won’t be able to move anymore.

What to do if you’re carrying too much Weight in Palworld

If you’re busy farming and don’t want to lose all your precious resources, don’t fret. There are solutions to keeping your goods.

First off, you can split items (Shift-Click) to make smaller stacks of them in your inventory. Then, use the “Drop” function in your inventory to place it on the ground, rather than Discard (which deletes it). Palworld seems pretty good so far about not suddenly erasing resources left on the ground, in my experience, so now you can start to ferry resources back to your base.

To that end, build lots of chests in your base. Chests aren’t just a good way to offload resources, but they eventually become a resource bank as you start to automate good collection with your base. Once you’ve established things like a Logging Site inside your base, have chests set up and a Pal with the Transporting Work Suitability to move the resources over.

With that in place, you’ll never have to worry about offloading the hundreds of Stone your Cattivas have accrued over hours of mining. So between good storage, a persistent world, and a little determination, hopefully this all helps you avoid that pesky “you’re carrying too much” warning.
