Armed with the new NPD data, our favorite games industry analyst, Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter, has announced some eye-popping predictions for September.

First off are the predictions that we didn’t need an analyst for: Halo 3 will sell well. Pachter did drop some figures to think about: he predicts that Halo 3 will move 3 million units in the first 12 days. He also expects Xbox 360s to fly off the shelves, saying sales could exceed 400,000 units in September. That’s more than last Christmas!

On the Sony front, Pachter says that the PS3 sales are tracking below expectations, but mentions that the sales were higher in previous months due to the recent price cut. Pachter is sticking to his prediction for a pre-Thanksgiving of the 80GB PS3 to $499.

He also restates that he expects the announcement of a PS2 price drop to $99 at next week’s Tokyo Game Show, noting that Kaz Hirai is the keynote speaker.  “If the rumors are true,” he says, “we cannot think of a better forum for making such an announcement, given that the event is less than a week before the launch of archrival Microsoft’s Halo 3.”
