The award-winning manga Oshi no Ko, created by the joint effort of the writer Aka Akasaka and the artist Mengo Yokoyari, just released its final chapter. However, fans of the series already have something to look forward to. The 50th issue of Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine announced that Aka Akasaka is already working on a new manga.
Anime News Network reports that Aka Akasaka will be working with Record of Ragnarok‘s Ajichika and Greek Circle Crisis‘ Aoi Kujira. Furthermore, the new manga series will be released in the same magazine. The story reportedly follows the love story of a prince and a princess in a fairy tale setting.
A teaser image for the new manga has also been released.
About Aka Akasaka
Aka Akasaka made his manga debut in 2015 with Kaguya-sama: Love is War. At the time, it was being published on Miracle Jump. The series was later transferred to Weekly Young Jump where it ultimately saw its conclusion in November 2022. But while the series was still in publication, Akasaka already started working on Oshi no Ko with Mengo Yokoyari.
The two titles were serialized at the same time since April 2020, which meant Akasaka was working on two titles at once. That set-up may have possibly worked for him. After Kaguya-sama: Love is War ended in 2022, Akasaka announced his retirement from drawing manga. In April 2023, he worked with Nishizawa 5mm to release yet another manga series, Renai Daiko. Renai Daiko ran from April 2023 to June 2024.
Despite working on multiple series at once, Akasaka’s works are not unloved. Kaguya-sama: Love is War won the Next Manga Award for print manga, the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award for the general manga category, and the grand prize of the BookWalker Awards. Meanwhile, Oshi no Ko was also a winner of the Next Manga Award.
