In one of the first developer diaries for Dragon Age: Origins, the team behind the RPG indirectly addresses a powerful question: how does one bring something fresh and unique to the saturated fantasy genre? The answer, it seems, lies within a mixture of genre- and game-critical components — stuff like architecture, complex narrative, level design, and backstory.
Concept art plays a role as well. In the opening seconds of the video, we’re treated with a variety of images created by the videogame’s creative folk. The Darkspawn image is the best of the bunch, if only because skulls are totally metal.
