Ooblets

Ooblets brings its creature collecting and dance battling to Steam on October 5

Showdown in the Dance Barn.

Quirky creature collector Ooblets has long been exclusive to Epic Games Store on PC, but that’s about to change. The Steam page is live for Glumberland’s charming game, complete with an October 5, 2023 launch date. If you’ve been eyeing these bizarre creatures from afar, it’s almost time to get to know your fellow followbabies.

Ooblets is a game that wears its inspirations on its sleeve while doing something interesting with them. Toss in flavors like Stardew Valley and Pokémon and you start to get the idea of what kind of stew Glumberland concocted.

Cozy critters

Farming, fishing, and loads of customization options await in Ooblets, as players attempt to help the mayor save Badgetown. As the mystery unravels you’ll travel through various regions. Port Forward’s boardwalk and its arcades, the chilly Tippytops, and Nullwhere’s swamps await adventurous players. And then, of course, there are the Ooblets themselves. You’ll grow these little weirdos from seeds, have them perform tasks, and engage in a decidedly Ooblets take on combat.

In place of traditional throwdowns, Ooblets settle their differences with card-based dance battles. You’ll need different items to battle each wild Ooblet, and you can also take on other citizens within Oob. Even if card games aren’t your forte, these clashes still manage to be another chill aspect of a relatively relaxing game.

Ooblets originally hit Early Access on Xbox One and Epic Games Store on July 15, 2020. The full release followed on September 1, 2022. The fact that Ooblets was first announced back in 2016 means the road to the upcoming Steam version has been a particularly long one. In addition to PC and Xbox, Ooblets is currently available on Nintendo Switch.
