One Destiny 2 Hunter solo killed Salvation’s Edge boss, The Witness

When an eldritch god has no idea who it's going up against.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape ended up being pretty darn great, all things considered, with its Salvation’s Edge Raid a particularly notable high-point for the expansion. The big bad of the DLC, The Witness, is the Raid boss, and one Destiny 2 hunter has killed it solo.

All the kudos for this incredible accomplishment go to Bog On My Dog, a skilled Hunter player who’s pulled off some truly wild moves to cut The Witness down. Notably, it’s been known for some time now that the mechanics of the fight with The Witness in Salvation’s Edge are solo-able. This time around, damage was the big problem, as players simply couldn’t eke out enough DPS to burn through The Witness’ health bar in time during the final stand sequence. Bog On My Dog managed to get to this stage through a combination of wild luck and serious skill, by tossing a Hunter Prismatic grenade onto the Witness’ arm, which then directed the damage spike onto its chest.

It was this damage spike from the Prismatic Grenade that allowed Bog On My Dog to save enough heavy ammo to pull off the final stand and finally take The Witness down. They got lucky, for sure, but Bog’s grenade placement wasn’t the only thing that went their way. Not only did Bog receive enough heavy ammo to wrap up the fight at just the right time, but they also relied on a totally random quirk of Destiny 2‘s game engine. As per Bog On My Dog’s video description:

“Because this game is weird, sometimes golden gun “chunks” and does more damage to the health bar than it should – this can also happen with still hunt. In order to hit the damage check required for this you rely on at least 1 golden gun chunk,” Bog On My Dog writes. “Thankfully, I hit one of these golden gun chunks on final stand which made up for the fact that I started final stand late due to not fully charging still hunt before final – Yes this is lucky but the amount of clearable runs I lost to the most absurdly unlucky things, I think I deserved it.”

The stars essentially aligned to give Bog On My Dog everything they needed to pull off a solo Witness kill, then. Bog did mention that it should be a bit easier to pull this off when the second act of the Echo Episode releases, as it’s going to feature some important new Artifact mods: “I wouldn’t recommend this solo to anyone right now,” said Bog, “but at reset I will be running this up and will post a clear using the new artifact mods and give an update on how difficult it is with those mods.”

Some seriously impressive stuff, then. I recommend checking out Bog On My Dog’s full solo Witness clear just to see the wizardry in motion, but if you’re pressed for time, the delightfully bombastic clip featured above should do the trick, too.
