This isn’t exactly news, but I still thought you’d want to hear about it. Nationally broadcast radio show On The Media just put out an episode about videogames, and it’s pretty amazing. A recap of the Atari/Nintendo/Sega-side of the evolution of gaming, a shout out to Poison (gaming’s first confirmed transvestite), some bright ideas on how MMOs (and the people who play them) may change the world, and an excellent critique of Heavy Rain by a professional author are just a few of the many highlights to be found in this fine program.
Sadly, it still feels like an event whenever a major mainstream media outlet takes a serious, positive, and well crafted stab at discourse about videogames. On the bright-side, that’s exactly what we have here; a fine look at gaming from a non-enthusiast source, with barely any disdain or spite towards the medium to be found. I implore you to give this show a listen (link provided below). If this episode does well enough, who knows? Maybe we’ll get more informative, unbiased, and xenophobia-free radio shows about videogames in the future.
