No Man’s Sky is about to fix its corn tree problem, hopefully

Be amaized.

No Man’s Sky has come a ridiculously long way since it first came out, almost seven years ago. Its latest big update, Worlds – Part 1, set out to rework its planet generation algorithms, and though it’s been a big success, there are some problems. Like the corn trees, for example.

Notably, while this problem isn’t wholly universal ā€” I myself have not come across the now-infamous corn trees ā€” some players report that this cob-based plant has taken over virtually every lush planet’s flora after the Worlds – Part 1 update came out. For a content update that prides itself specifically on its hugely improved planet generation features, which I’ve admittedly been enjoying very much, the corn trees have been a big issue. It’s a good thing, then, that the developer Hello Games already has a fix in the pipeline.

Download the Experimental Branch No Man’s Sky update for corn tree fixes

If you simply cannot stand the exotic corn trees anymore, I recommend looking into the experimental build of No Man’s Sky on Steam, accessible right now. There are a bunch of interesting fixes featured in the latest experimental branch of the game, but the most important of them all is, by far, this one: “Fixed an issue that caused all the trees on some lush planets to become giant corn stalks.”

You can learn more about the experimental build of No Man’s Sky using this link to the official Steam forum. The build is accessible by right-clicking No Man’s Sky in the Steam Library page, then going to the ‘Properties’ menu and selecting the ‘BETAS’ tab when it pops up. Enter ‘3xperimental’ in the relevant textbox that opens up and check the code, as this will unlock early access to Hello Games’ pre-release updates as soon as they’re available. Just make sure that you select the Experimental Branch from the drop-down menu after activating the code.

The hyper-aggressive spreading of corn trees is funny in its own right, but those who are affected by the bug haven’t been having a great time exploring No Man’s Sky‘s otherwise delightful lush planets. Having all of your large flora become super-sized cobbed corn gets tiring quickly, and people have been reporting the issue left and right to get Hello Games to pay attention to the bug.

The fact that a supposed fix is already semi-available to the general public is excellent news, then, though we don’t know yet when this update might be getting pushed live for those who aren’t keen on accessing the experimental build of the game just yet. Even Hello Games warns that it’s entirely possible that this version of No Man’s Sky might permanently bork up your save games, and it’s recommended that you back up your progress before updating to the experimental branch if at all possible.

For those who don’t mind the corn, it’s not too big of a deal. If you’d like to experience everything No Man’s Sky‘s new Worlds – Part 1 update has to offer, though, and you’re not keen on testing out an early version of the fix, you may need to wait a few days or weeks still.
