Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, Jan 14, New 3DS release date incoming?

Today, Nintendo confirmed the date and time for its next Nintendo Direct event: Wednesday, January 14 at 9am Eastern / 6am Pacific. The event will feature Satoru Iwata “and crew” as they cover the spring 2015 lineup for Wii U and 3DS. It will be followed by a press event in San Francisco, which Destructoid plans to attend.

Based on concrete release dates and estimations given by Nintendo in the past, the Direct is likely to cover Code Name: S.T.E.A.M, Majora’s Mask 3D, and Yoshi’s Wooly World. It’s also possible we’ll hear something about the Mewtwo DLC for Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS.

We also have reason to believe the North American launch date for the New 3DS will be revealed during the Direct. According to Gamnesia, the date has already been set (February 13), and GameStop pre-orders are set to begin “soon.” If retailers are starting to make concrete plans, it seems likely the New 3DS’ launch is not too far off.
