The patch job blues
Since New Gundam Breaker released last week, word has quickly spread about the state of the game. It’s in extremely rough shape in almost every aspect, with critics and fans tearing it apart in the aftermath. While not everything can be fixed, Namco has revealed its plans for the PlayStation 4 version throughout July and August.
These changes won’t cause it to become a good game, but it is a step in the right direction.
First we have the following changes scheduled for sometime in July:
- The responsiveness of the controls and stability of the game will be improved.
- The behavior of the camera and lock-on system will be adjusted.
- Changes will be made to the behavior of the ‘third party,’ as well as to parts falling off due to damage from them. Whether this is the opponent team or neutral forces are not clear.
- During a multiplayer match, you will acquire parts that your teammates have gathered at the end of a match.
- Various lines will be added for radio chat.
- Various parameters will be adjusted.
In addition to these changes, the Kapool from Turn A Gundam will be the focus of a new event stage starting on July 4. This is actually good for those wanting to focus on the customization part of the game, as the ball-esque design of the Kapool is very distinct. That being said, I don’t believe the idea of releasing only one new mobile suit every two to three weeks for a limited time is going to help keep players invested like they are hoping for.
However, additional plans are scheduled for August as follows:
- Changes will be made to the sorting feature when in the assembly area
- A new battle stage will be added
- The ability to create private rooms for three-versus-three battles will be added
- The ability to have three players face CPU players will be added
There’s not a lot here to say that you can’t already tell from reading the list. The game released in a bad state, with a lot of features we take for granted from these types of games missing. If this was the state of the PS4 version at launch, I can’t imagine what the PC version was like before the delay.
New Gundam Breaker is available now for PlayStation 4, with a PC release scheduled for this summer.
