New “Fang’s Big Break” comic serves as Sonic Superstars’ prologue

Sega is pulling out all the stops for Sonic Superstars.

With Sonic Superstars inching closer to its launch, there’s plenty for fans of the blue hedgehog to get excited about. The upcoming game retains a 2D sidescroller look, though it uses 3D assets instead of the pixel art style of Sonic Mania. In the lead-up to the game, we’ve gotten a few gameplay videos and a few music snippets.

More recently, Sega has laid the groundwork for the plot through prologues. The first came in the form of a cute animated video featuring Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy. We also see the main villains of Sonic Superstars – Dr. Eggman, Fang the Hunter, and Trip.

The latest prologue comes in the form of a comic that will be released in parts. Sega released the first part on social media, and it starts with Dr. Eggman and Fang looking over Northstar Island. Dr. Eggman is on the hunt for beasts and treasures, and he sends Fang off to do his bidding.

Fang sets off with the intention of double-crossing Dr. Eggman, but things go south when strange sounds emerge from the trees. You’ll have to wait for the next part to find out what happens to the devious duo.

There’s plenty of Sonic comics to explore

Over the decades, there have been plenty of Sonic comics released. This year, fans were allowed to create and share their own comics thanks to the Fast Friends Forever campaign. Visit the franchise’s social media channels, and you can view some of these comics which focus on Sonic and his friends.

Sonic Superstars is set to release on October 17 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
