Gotta stream fast
The animatedĀ SonicĀ universe keeps on expanding. Today, we got a quick teaser of a newĀ SonicĀ animation coming to Netflix,Ā Sonic Prime.
Sonic Prime‘s suitably speedy teaser features the hedgehog himself, racing along what looks like the Green Hill Zone. We don’t get much more than a good look at the animation style for this series, but it at least gives us a good idea of what’s in store.

Not many more details are out right now. According to a Netflix description of the show,Ā Sonic PrimeĀ will see the Blue Blur attempt to save a new multiverse. It’s also, apparently, a journey of self-discovery and redemption. Dang, was the originalĀ SonicĀ movie teaser really that bad?
No premiere date’s been set yet for the 24-episode series.
Sonic on top of the world
It’s certainly been a good few years for the blue hedgehog, at least in media at large. Both the first and secondĀ Sonic the HedgehogĀ movies had huge debuts, making Sonic the presumptive leader in video game movie attendance.
The open-world Sonic game,Ā Sonic Frontiers, is expected sometime later this year and sounds pretty cool so far.Ā Sonic the FightersĀ appeared in the law-and-order spinoff of the Yakuza series withĀ Lost Judgement.Ā Even some classic Sonic the HedgehogĀ games are getting a new re-release collection with a bunch of neat futures. Though, that particular collection has caused some trouble, both with its pre-order scheme and tangential de-listings.
With Netflix at least, Sonic’s fortunes could continue to be golden. It has been home to a bunch of video game adaptations, from Cuphead to The Witcher. The streaming platform has been having some public trouble too, due to waning numbers and layoffs at its Tudum website. Hopefully the Blue Blur isn’t caught up in the churn.
