Remember earlier this year, before hell on Earth happened, when we were all singing “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” together? Good times.

While that era feels like it was eons ago, Netflix is hard at work drumming up hype for their upcoming second season of The Witcher TV show, which will allegedly make things less confusing given that it will feature a single timeline. But before that’s even out, the streaming platform confirmed this morning that there will be a new prequel show that will focus partly on how “the first Witcher came to be.”

It’ll be set “1200 years before Geralt of Rivia,” as multiple species merge into one universe. Netflix says that it’ll be titled “The Witcher: Blood Origin,” and will be a six-part live-action spinoff series from the minds of Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The former has worked on CW shows as well as Netflix’s Iron Fist (woof) and has written one episode of The Witcher show. The latter is the showrunner of The Witcher, with writing and production credits from several Netflix Marvel shows (including one of the only good ones: Daredevil).

Given that a huge part of the current Witcher TV show’s appeal is Henry Cavill as Geralt, I’m anxious to see what they have planned. As a reminder, an animated series is also on the way, as Netflix continues to aggressively attempt to make this the next Game of Thrones or Walking Dead.
