This beloved spin-off is finally getting the adaptation it deserves.

During Jump Festa 2025, TOHO Animation announced that the My Hero Academia spin-off manga, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, is finally getting an animated adaptation, and Bones (the same studio behind the main series) is in charge of animating it.

TOHO uploaded the first official trailer on its YouTube Channel, and it looks absolutely amazing, as it showcases the main characters of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes (The Crawler, Pop Step and Knuckleduster) moving around with the high-quality animation we usually expect from Bones. The best part is that we won’t have to wait very long for this new series since it will begin airing on April 2025, in just 4 months.

This is an especially interesting release schedule for Vigilantes, because TOHO and Bones also confirmed that the eight and final season of My Hero Academia will come out later in the same year, in Fall 2025. This IP been extremely successful for both companies, so while it’s no surprise that they clearly want to keep it alive after the conclusion of the original show, it’s interesting that they are already planning to release the spin-off a few months before that. Nevertheless, the plot of Vigilantes is quite extensive, so they will most likely need a few more seasons to adapt it in its entirety.

What is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, exactly?

While fans of the My Hero Academia manga are already celebrating the long-awaited announcement of this new anime, many others are wondering what exactly Vigilantes is. This was a spin-off manga that Hideyuki Furuhashi wrote, Betten Court illustrated, and Kohei Horikoshi himself (the author of the original MHA manga) supervised. It was published on Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2022, and it had 126 different chapters by the time it concluded.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes follows the story of Koichi Haimawari, a 19-year-old man who was never able to become a Pro Hero due to his seemingly weak and insignificant Quirk. However, after meeting characters like Pop Step and Knuckleduster, he learns about the titular Vigilantes, renegade heroes without official licenses who often have to ignore the law in order to help save people.

This spin-off fleshed out the world of this series in brilliant ways, not to mention that it’s actually a prequel that takes place a few years before the beginning of My Hero Academia and, as a result, it explains some important details that Horikoshi never revealed during the main manga. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes features a gripping storyline with memorable heroes & villains and epic fight scenes, so its upcoming animated adaptation has the potential to become something truly special.
