The Modern Horizons sets for Magic: The Gathering set the standard for what players can expect from future expansions. They tell epic stories, feature phenomenal cards that completely alter the way you play, and usually pack in some of the best products you can buy for this franchise. Modern Horizons 3 is no different, and it’s not even that far away for those of you who want to get in on day one.

At the time of writing, we know of 14 cards that will be available in MTG Modern Horizons 3, in addition to the usual Basic Lands. I’ve listed these below alongside their abilities so you can get an idea of what the set’s bringing to the table. I’ll keep this section up to date as new cards are revealed.

  • Ajani, Nacatl Pariah: A 1/2 Cat Warrior who creates a 2/1 Cat Warrior Token when entering the battlefield. When a Cat Warrior you control dies, you can exile him and return him to the field transformed under your control.
  • Fire of Cultivation: A Sorcery that can be summoned by sacrificing a nontoken green creature rather than paying its mana cost. It lets you search your library for up to 2 basic land cards, reveal them, then put one onto the battlefield tapped and the other into your hand before shuffling.
  • Psychic Frog: A 1/2 Creature that allows you to draw a card when you damage a player or Planeswalker. You can discard a card to add a +1/+1 counter to it or Exile three cards from your graveyard to give it Flying for the rest of your turn.
  • Bloodstained Mire: A Dual Land card that lets you pay 1 life to sacrifice it and search for a Swamp or Mountain to put on the battlefield.
  • Flooded Strand: A Dual Land that gives you the power to sacrifice it and 1 life to search for an Island or Plains card to put onto the battlefield from your deck.
  • Polluted Delta: A Dual Land card that lets you sacrifice it and pay 1 life to search for a Swamp or Island from your deck and put it onto the battlefield.
  • Windswept Heath: A Dual Land card you can sacrifice and pay 1 life to search for a Forest or Plains card from your deck to play on the battlefield with.
  • Wooded Foothills: Yet another Dual Land you can sacrifice and pay 1 life with to seek out a Mountain or Forest card from your deck to play on the battlefield.
  • The usual Basic Lands Cards
  • Laelia, the Blade Reforged: A 2/2 Legendary Creature card with Haste. When it attacks, you can exile the top card of your library and play it this turn. Whenever one or more cards are exiled from your library and/or graveyard, you put a +1/+1 counter on Laelia.
  • Emrakul, The World Anew: A 12/12 Legendary Creature that allows you to take control of every creature your opponent has on the battlefield when it’s played. Spells and permanents that were cast this turn can’t attack Emrakul because it has Flying against them specifically. When this card leaves the battlefield, it sacrifices all creatures you control. Madness (pay 6 life).
  • It That Heralds The End: A 2/2 Creature that lowers the cost of colorless spells with mana cost 7 or less by 1. All colorless creatures you control get +1/+1.
  • Priest of Titania: A 1/1 creature that adds 1 green mana for each Elf on the battlefield.
  • Scurry of Gremlins: An Enchantment that creates two 1/1 red Gremlin Tokens when entering the battlefield. You then get an amount of Energy Counters equal to the number of creatures you control. Pay 4 Energy Tokens to give creatures you control +1/+0 and Haste until the end of your turn.
  • Solitude: A 3/2 Creature with Haste and Lifelink. When it enters the battlefield, it can exile up to one other target creature; its controller gains life equal to its power. Has Evoke to sacrifice a white card from your hand.

What is the story in MTG Modern Horizons 3?

The story of Magic: The Gathering Modern Horizons 3 will be revealed on May 21, 2024. This is when all the prerelease information will be presented to fans, so we’ll have to wait until then to have any idea of what’s going on in this set. Considering the Modern Horizons sets always feature new cards and reprints, it likely involves moving the entire universe forward while also looking back at its past.

What is the new mechanic in MTG Modern Horizons 3?

The Magic: The Gathering Modern Horizons 3 set uses the Transform mechanic. This mechanic was introduced in the Innistrad set and has been used in others, such as Brother’s War. Essentially, this means some cards will be double-sided, and you’ll be able to Transform them into their secondary form after meeting the requirements listed on that card.

Will there be serialized cards in MTG Modern Horizons 3?

Yes, there are serialized cards in the Magic: The Gathering Modern Horizons 3 set. As should be expected at this point, these are exclusive to Collector Boosters, so you’ll need to fork out the cash for a Collector’s Booster Box or Gift Bundle if you want to be in with a chance of getting even a single serialized card.

I want to caveat this with the fact that Commander and Collector Commander Decks for this set come with Collector Booster Sample packs. These each have 2 cards in them, and I don’t believe they’ve got anywhere near the same odds of containing serialized cards. However, there’s always a chance, so don’t think that just because you can’t afford a Collector Booster Box means you’re out of the specialized cards game.

Where to buy MTG Modern Horizons 3 standard and collector’s products

The first place I recommend you look to purchase Magic: The Gathering Modern Horizons 3 is your local game store. Supporting local businesses will always benefit you because they put on local events for you to participate in and pick up rare cards. Outside of those stores, I’ve got a few suggestions for where you could look to purchase this set online below.

  • Amazon (US & UK): We all know Amazon is pretty good for buying anything, but it’s very hit-and-miss with TCGs like Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! In the case of this set, though, Amazon has everything available for you to pre-order right now.
  • Magic Madhouse (US & UK): Magic Madhouse is a fantastic TCG retailer that has everything you need. It sells out fast, though, so you’ll need to get your orders in fast. Something I’ve noticed is that you can stick up your preorders ahead of time to save money and know they’ll arrive on the day of or just after release. This is one of my main retailers when buying TCG products.
  • Chaos Cards (US & UK): Chaos Cards undercut the competition on price but sell out quickly. I’ve ordered loads from it before and it’s always arrived safely. Just be sure to get your orders in as soon as you can to avoid missing out on the Collector’s Commander Decks.
  • Axion Now (UK): Axion Now is a great UK retailer that generally beats everyone else on value if not price. For example, Prerelease Packs come with two extra Play Boosters. I’ve ordered with this retailer before and would trust them more than most with my orders.
  • GAME (UK): GAME can be a decent option for MTG products, but its stock fluctuates frequently. It’s worth keeping an eye out to see what it has in stock because it usually has rare items, such as Gift Bundles, for longer than most retailers.
