Better put on your best raincoat, as buckets of blood are about to start flying once more. NetherRealm Studios has opened the servers on the closed beta of their upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat 11.

Pre-order customers on PS4 and Xbox One are now able to jump online and check out the super-gory sequel. Players can play through some basic single player ladders, or jump online to fight it out with others, whilst getting a handle on some of the series new mechanics, such as Crushing Blow.

Five characters have been made available to use: Scorpion, Baraka, Scarlet, Jade and Kabal. I’m hoping to dive headlong into the mayhem later today. While I’ll admit I’m not quite as over-the-top excited about this release as I was for MK X, or MK 9, I am looking forward to checking out the state of play with series in its freshest iteration. There is currently no beta planned for the PC or Nintendo Switch editions.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches April 23 on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
