[Here’s the segment of the episode where Austin makes the announcement; Full episode coming soon! -Ed]

Sup, Holmes? (Dtoid’s live stream videogame industry talk show/podcast) just wrapped with WayForward’s Austin Ivansmith, and the man dropped a bomb on us. A little more than half way through the show, Austin announced that WayForward will be putting out a sequel to the 3DS eShop hit Mighty Switch Force. This is a first for the Mighty series, and great news for fans of 2D puzzle platforming action.

Details are scarce at the moment, but we do know that series protagonist Patricia Wagon will be returning, though this time she’ll be taking a break from her usual police work. What does a space cop do when she’s not out rounding up space criminals? I’d ask the Silverhawks, but they’re not real, so I can’t. Maybe there are some space cops in the Destructoid readership that can give me a hint.

We also heard that the game is planned for release in Q1 or Q2, and that Jake “Virt” Kaufman will be returning on the soundtrack. According to Austin, Virt has already performed some of the game’s songs at MAGFest and other events, so if you were at any of those shows, please tell us about what you heard.

Thanks again to Austin for coming on Sup Holmes and to WayForward for putting Mighty Switch Force HD on sale for 50% off in honor of the event. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more info on Mighty Switch Force 2 as it rolls in, and check out the full interview with Austin on Youtube and iTunes, which should be available soon.
