Take a trip down Metroid memory lane with this Nintendo series recap

Who doesn’t love a good recap?

Metroid is life. Well, Metroid is also death. Fans have to be OK with the series becoming dormant for a while: whether that’s the proper or Prime series. Much like F-Zero (but not quite as bad!) or Star Fox, Nintendo is keen on letting any given part of the franchise rest for a while, but this Metroid recap reminds us of just how much history there is to Samus.

It’s all been so incredibly low-key, but Nintendo has been running random Metroid factoids since the very start of its E3 announcement in random places. Whether it’s the official Metroid blog or Twitter, the powers that be are slowly providing a bigger picture as to what awaits us in Metroid Dread. This time, we get a “seven points that define the 2D saga” framed around a Metroid recap.

We get a rundown of Samus, as well as Metroids, the 35-year history of the series, exploration tidbits (mostly how to read and mark up the map), ability info, and background on the Chozo race and the X parasite. The best part is that each section has a little “developer transmission” commentary, like this:

“In the Metroid Dread game, Samus’s suit appears to have changed quite a bit from her previous missions. In the Metroid Fusion game, Samus’ suit was greatly transformed after the emergency removal of pieces eroded by the X parasite and a life-saving injection of the Metroid vaccine—resulting in an organic appearance for her suit. Now, her suit is gradually returning to its original, mechanical Power Suit form.”

Some of it is well-known. Some of you might not recall the events of Fusion and wouldn’t mind a good old Metroid recap. In any case, so many Metroid fans are starving for information that I know they’d jump at the chance to skim through this.
