Y’all ever notice how it’s the fellas that need the money the most that give away DLC the cheapest? Case in point, Project Lumina’s niche anime fighter Melty Blood: Type Lumina, which will be receiving two additional new characters, free to all players, on April 14 as part of the fighter’s next update.

The pugilists in question are Powered Ciel, an incredibly dangerous, damaging, armored variant of Melty Blood‘s domineering demon hunter, and Mario Gallo Bestino, who forgoes strength and power for speedy mixups, with his actions boosted by the presence of The Sisters of The Holy Church, whom Mario can utilize at will in order to confuse his opponents in battle.

While Mario will be looking to make his presence felt in his Melty Blood video game debut, Powered Ciel’s reputation as a hardy opponent precedes her, with the character afforded further polish with a new character model and some smart new animations for her devastating array of attacks.

In addition to the arrival of Powered Ciel and Mario Gallo Bestino, the new update will include two new battlegrounds. These include the desolated cityscape “Battle at the Threshold”, and the rooftop rumblin’ “Actions in the Lower World.” Both stages will also come loaded for bear with brand new themes. If that wasn’t enough, then five new color variants will be joining the wardrobes of the entire roster.

In regards to paid DLC, Powered Ciel and Mario Gallo Bestino can be purchased as alternate announcers for around $3 each. It’s not a high price to ask, and given the above free content, it would be rad for the community to chuck Project Lumina an extra few bucks for its trouble.

For the competitive among you, Melty Blood: Type Lumina will be holding a North American tournament later in 2022, with details to follow in the coming months. All in all, it’s a pretty big week for the Melty Blood faithful, who will assuredly be grateful for the DLC content and dev support.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
