If you knew that “each [retail] store is being given their final allotment” but had been hoping that more Pip-Boys would go into production, the outlook isn’t good, I’m afraid – the manufacturer of Fallout 4‘s Collector’s Edition Pip-Boy accessory is physically unable to meet demand.

Talking to GameSpot at QuakeCon, Bethesda’s marketing VP Pete Hines confirmed that Bethesda has “reached a point where we’d go back to the factories and they were like, ‘guys, this is it, sorry. This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make.'”

“We’d go back and say, ‘Demand for this is insane, we’ve got to make more.’ And [the factory would] move other projects off or shift stuff to other factories and it just came to ‘Final answer: sorry, this is as many as we can make.'”

The Collector’s Edition boasting the Pip-Boy – which retails for around £100/$120 – is already sold out on the Bethesda store (US sales) and GAME (UK) (and has already appeared for resale on Amazon for £300, ffs). The accessory enables you to shove your phone into the Pip-Boy, enabling you to use the menu screen from your wrist, which is super cool and completely negates the fact you’ll be sporting one of the world’s biggest and ugliest smartwatches.

If you’re panicking about whether or not your pre-order will be fulfilled, don’t – Hines has confirmed that all those already ordered will be honoured.

“We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys. I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector’s edition we’ve ever done.”
