Doug Lowenstein is a good guy. If you owned a house, he’d come over on weekends and help you put up drywall, and if your girlfriend was cheating on you, it would not be with Doug. No, Doug is a man’s man, and a gamer’s gamer. He has a long history of advocating for our favorite hobby, but it seems that this one-time founder of the ESA is stepping down from his post to head up a trade group in an industry that doesn’t involve digital breasts or monkeys named Donkey.

In it’s decade-plus lifespan, the ESA, and, by extension, Mr. Lowenstein, has affected gaming in profound ways. From the annual E3 event to the creation of the ESRB, these are the guys who fight the good fight against the crazed senators and bloodthirsty lawyers of the world. Doug, if you’re reading this, we appreciate what you’ve done for us over the years, and I promise, we’ll pay you back that twenty we owe you as soon as we get paid.

Please don’t break our thumbs.

[UPDATE: Dtoid member Mxyzptlk brought this tidbit to my attention that I had completely forgotten about. So, while Doug may have been fighting the good fight for gamers’ rights, he fears our massive metallic power. For shame Doug.]
