Lollipop Chainsaw RePop announcement: When and where to watch

Suda-51 and James Gunn's bizarre zombie adventure game is revving back up.

2012’s Lollipop Chainsaw won fans over with its quirky combination of hack-and-slash gameplay and the core concept of a cheerleader protagonist who hunts zombies using a chainsaw in her spare time.

The game has become something of a cult classic and seemed to quietly disappear, but a remake was announced in 2022 by Dragami Games, Lollipop Chainsaw RePop. RePop is closer to a remaster than a remake, preserving what was there in the original for those who loved it, but updates have been few and far between. Fortunately, that’s about to change.

When and where to watch the Lollipop Chainsaw RePop announcement

The next update for Lollipop Chainsaw RePop will be released on June 13, 2024, at 6 PM PT via the Dragami Games official YouTube channel. This announcement, confirmed by the publisher’s X/Twitter account, will finally reveal the release date and platforms for Lollipop Chainsaw RePop.

Lollipop Chainsaw is regarded as such a brilliant game because it captures the zany design ethos of Grasshopper Manufacture, Suda 51, and, perhaps most surprising of all, filmmaker James Gunn. This bizarre combination of creative energy at the helm resulted in one of the wildest zombie adventures of gaming’s seventh generation.

The game focuses on Juliet, an 18-year-old zombie hunter who has to decapitate her boyfriend, Nick, at the start of a zombie outbreak. Nick manages to survive this thanks to a ritual, and Juliet sets out with Nick’s head attached to her belt and a massive chainsaw in hand to find a way to stop the zombie apocalypse and save her classmates.

The original release of Lollipop Chainsaw had a fairly mixed reception, with its current Metacritic rating being a 70 for both the Metascore and user Score. There is always the possibility that rift will only grow with this remaster, given the original game is from more than a decade ago.

But considering the raw cult appeal of Lollipop Chainsaw, the growing nostalgia for Xbox 360 games, and the overall growing positive reception the original release has gained over the years, this remaster has a chance to be something special. Fans have been waiting a long time to see what the future of Lollipop Chainsaw is, but that wait may finally be over.
