Like a Dragon studio announces RGG Summit 2024 for September

The break is over.

It’s gearing up to be an exciting fall for fans of Like a Dragon (and possibly other games that have taken place in Kamurocho). Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirmed that RGG Summit 2024 will go live on September 20, just days before the Tokyo Game Show cracks off.

The studio that brought us shirtless, growling men who punch each other on rooftops announced the showcase during a livestream earlier today. Studio head Yokoyama Masayoshi was on set with several other RGG folks, including the voice of Kasuga Ichiban and Nishikiyama Akira, Nakatani Kazuhiro. The livestream was a brisk one-hour long with the crew showcasing the Nintendo Switch version of Yakuza Kiwami, which was revealed during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. Near the end of the livestream, RGG revealed the showcase and its date.

Like a Dragon studio prepares to show off what’s coming next

RGG Summit 2024 is scheduled for September 20 at 19:00 JST/3 a.m. PDT/6 a.m. EDT. Typically, RGG showcases of the past exist to reveal new games in the Like a Dragon franchise and its spinoffs or offer a deeper dive into games already announced. RGG Summit 2024 will likely focus on the former, hopefully giving us a look at what the team has been cooking behind the scenes. The last presentation was RGG Summit Fall 2023, covering Like a Dragon Gaiden and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio revealed in July that it planned on revealing its next game during the Tokyo Game Show on September 26. With today’s announcement, I have to wonder just what exactly we’re in for with these two events. RGG reportedly mentioned that fans would be “surprised” at its next game, and Sega recently filed a trademark for something called “Yakuza Wars.” What we don’t know can sink a secret battleship, but that does make all the teases even more tantalizing.

We’ll know for sure what RGG Studio has been working on next month. Here’s hoping for a standalone Dragon Kart! Truth be told, I’ll take anything so long as it stars Shun Akiyama. We need an Akiyama Gaiden, RGG.

There’s more to look forward to following the show. As mentioned, the franchise returns to Nintendo platforms when Yakuza Kiwami launches for the Switch on October 24, 2024. The Like a Dragon: Yakuza live-action series also begins on October 24, retelling the story of the first game for Amazon Prime members.
