Like a Dragon developer’s next game will reportedly be revealed during Tokyo Game Show in September

Withholding judgment.

The maker of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series will reportedly reveal its next game in only a couple of short months. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will show off what it’s been cooking in September.

The news was reported by VGC, translating a stream hosted by the developer on its official YouTube channel. According to the clip, RGG plans to show off its next game during Tokyo Game Show 2024, which starts on September 26, 2024.

As far as details go, there isn’t a lot to go on. The stream went live to announce the candidates chosen from the Minato Girls Audition which took place in March. As stated in the video’s details, the winners are slated to appear in the next Like a Dragon game. Of course, that doesn’t mean said game will be another within the franchise, but a fan can dream.

The next RGG game to be revealed in late September

It hasn’t been too long since the last Like a Dragon game. LAD: Infinite Wealth arrived on January 25, 2024, to high praise, receiving a solid 8/10 from your favorite website. One would think it’s a tad early for another Like a Dragon game, but as RGG has proven before, it’s not too shabby with multitasking. Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth all arrived within a year of each other.

So, what’s on the horizon for the team? The only information we have is a user on X claiming that RGG mentioned fans would be “surprised” by the next game while speaking at an event during Anime Expo 2024. That could mean just about anything. While I won’t bet on another mainline release, there’s a chance we may hear about another Gaiden-like adventure. I’m still holding out on Judgment 3 and taking all bets.

Either way, it seems we have plenty coming our way from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Following the Tokyo Game Show announcement, Amazon is premiering its live-action adaptation of the franchise in October.
